Florence. A sell-out crowd of 8,330 spectators watched Italy end the first round of the
World Championship 2018 unbeaten, with a 3-1 victory over Slovenia at the
Mandela Forum.
This success means that Blengini’s team will have the advantage of going to
Milan (Pool E) with maximum points (5 wins and 15 points). And it is at the
Assago Forum (21-23 September) that Giannelli and his team mates will be playing these teams for a place in the final round:
Netherlands, another Erreà team, and Russia and Finland.
Six teams will qualify for Turin: the winners from pools E, F, G, H, plus the best two runners up from the four groups. Italy will leave Florence for Milan where they will play their first match against Finland on
Friday 21 September at the Assago Forum (9.15 pm).
The teams that have gone through to the second phase are:
