Italy are outstanding at the World Track Championships in Berlin!

They bring home 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals. Three medals came in the men’s sector, with a bronze in the Olympic category team pursuit, and three in the women’s, two of which were in Olympic category events.

With an eye on Tokyo 2020, Italian cycling can be more than satisfied with its medal tally and the results achieved, returning home from these World Championships with the highest number of medals won in years.

Making his mark on history, in particular, was the record-setting Filippo Ganna, who, at the age of 23, took the individual pursuit world title in Berlin in a time of 4:01.934: a new world record and his fourth title. He is the first Italian to have achieved such a feat, and is second only to British cyclist, William Porter.
