Braille Night in Varese: a unique chapter of sports and awareness

In the game against Venice on January 14th, Pallacanestro Varese inaugurated a new chapter in the history of European basketball with the first Braille Night.

In collaboration with Erreà, the club proudly incorporated the word "Varese" in red Braille on their white game jerseys, confirming itself as the first professional basketball team in Europe to adopt unique uniforms in support of the blind and visually impaired community. During the match, the audience was offered the unparalleled experience of living a minute of the game in the absence of light, allowing spectators to use their other senses and rediscover the world of basketball in different ways.

This initiative paid tribute to the tactile reading and writing system of Louis Braille, the young blind Parisian who invented it, offering a precious opportunity for sharing and inclusion during a high-level sporting event. The jerseys worn during the game were auctioned off for charity, with the proceeds donated to the Real Eyes Sport association to develop a culture based on the benefits of physical activity, especially in the presence of visual impairment.
