On Saturday, 2nd November, Middlesbrough FC will send an important message of awareness against knife crime by stepping away from their traditional home red kit for one day.
For the match against Coventry City, the team will wear an all-white kit, encouraging fans to participate by leaving their red shirts and scarves at home, turning the Riverside Stadium into a unified place under the message "No More Red."
This initiative, born from growing concern over knife crime in Cleveland—a region near Middlesbrough—highlights alarming statistics: a third of these crimes involve young people aged 24 or younger, 57% of all serious violence involves knives, and 186 young people have been victims of violent incidents involving knives or other dangerous weapons. Additionally, 63 young people were found in possession of these weapons between August 2023 and July 2024.
The white kit, created with the support of the club’s main partners, will be a unique item available exclusively through auction to raise funds for the Chris Cave Foundation—a local charity supporting victims of violent crime—and the MFC Foundation's Kicks programme. To reinforce the message, even the players’ warm-up shirts and matchday programme will be colourless.
In this way, Middlesbrough FC invites its fans to unite for a significant day of awareness and community support.
