Cardiff Met Uni FC will play in Europa League, or better, thanks to an historic feat they will compete in the preliminary round of the prestigious UEFA competition. Nothing strange you would think, if the team were not a university team.
We are in the Welsh championship and Cardiff Met, for who Errea is official technical partner, finish in seventh position of the Welsh Premier League and qualify for the playoffs. They arrive in the final, in front of less than thousand people, against professional club, Bala Town. After having finished 1-1 at full-time, they win on penalties and qualify for the Europa League preliminary round.
The club was founded in the Cardiff Met University and players are all PhD students or masters students of the university, who will now have an international experience different from the ‘usual’ Erasmus.
A reason for celebration, therefore, at Cardiff Met University, who will also receive prize money from UEFA for Europa League qualification.
