2018 Volleyball Women's World Championship: a silver medal for Italy!!!

Yokohama. Italy’s women's volleyball team ended their World Championship bid with a silver medal, beaten in the final by Serbia 2-3 (25-21, 14-25, 25-23, 19-25, 12-15). A fantastic result, nevertheless, that came at the end of an unforgettable three weeks for Italian volleyball as a whole. Right from the very first round in Sapporo, with stop-offs in Osaka and Nagoya along the way, and ending up finally in Yokohama, Davide Mazzanti's team, in fact, thrilled their fans and sports critics with their beautiful play and dogged determination on the court, ending their World Championship adventure with 11 wins and just 2 defeats.   Sadly, in the final, Chirichella and her team-mates were unable to take their revenge over European Champions Serbia, the only team to have beaten Italy in the tournament - first in Nagoya and now in Yokohama.

Sixteen years on (a World Championship gold in Berlin in 2002), Italy have once again won a championship medal and they did so with a very young team. The average age of the fourteen members of the Italian squad was under 23, and for no fewer than 10 of them, this was their first ever World Championship.

Our warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to them!!!!
