Zenit Kazan is European Champion!
There was only one winner in the Champions League Final played at Rome's Palalottomatica, when Zenit Kazan won 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-14) against Perugia to be crowned European Champion.
The Umbrian team had to contend with a star-studded team that clinched its third consecutive Champions League final, and the fifth in its illustrious history, which includes victories in 2008, 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2017. A steamroller of a team that lifted the trophy after a clear run of unbeaten successes.
Zenit Kazan, with it’s incredible squad of players, began the competition as favourite and never once dropped its guard and, above all, it did non rely on the individuality of its star players, but played as a strong and compact unit. Playing against Perugia in Rome it took only three well-played sets, with only the second being a balanced affair, to keep the opposing team at bay. The team from Umbria did try, but the gap between the two teams was vast in so many different areas around the net. It wasn't until the third set, having gone behind, that the SIR players slowed their play, succumbing to the Russians who triumphantly celebrated another historic milestone.
