The US soccer team at the 29th edition of the Summer Universiade!


The US men’s soccer team, in their Errea gear, is taking part in the 29th edition of the Summer Universiade in Taipei, the most complete sports event of the season, featuring multiple sports and open to university students from all over the world.

There are 21 sports in the programme, some of them Olympic, and many of the athletes present also competed in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The Games include athletics, basketball, diving, fencing, soccer, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, judo, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, water polo, archery, badminton, roller sports, weightlifting and wushu.

The idea of organising an international sports event reserved for university students dates back to 1959, when the first Universiade was organised in Turin. Since then, every two years, young athletes from all over the world compete for medals that have acquired increasing prestige.

The Universiade began on 19 August and will continue until 30 August.
